ARTHRITIS CLASS

Slower paced, designed for arthritis patient exercise and management.

AQUACISE

Full body cardio workout that uses non-gravitational water resistance to produce an effective low-impact workout that is easier on joints and muscles.

GENTLE STRETCH

Focus on stretching and lower back exercises.

GROUP CYCLING

Experience our world class cycling class conducted by some of the best instructors in Alabama. Stationary bikes, motivating music and cadence drills. This class is suitable for all levels.

LINE DANCING

Teaches fun, sequenced musical line dance! No dance experience required.

POUND

Channel your inner rock star with this full-body, cardio jam session of a workout inspired by drumming. Using ripstix, a lightly weighted exercise drumstick, torch calories and tone while rocking out to your favorite music.

POWER PUMP AEROBICS

Multi-joint, muscular endurance, balance coordination focus. Dumbbell, medicine balls, disc and resistance tubing.

PURMOTION

A new and exciting way to take your workout to the next level. Interval training using body weight, free weights and specialized equipment that engages the entire muscular system. Great for increasing functional fitness to the next level.

SILVER

Focus on core strength, balance and incorporates stretching. Perfect for seniors seeking to improve flexibility and functional balance and strength.

TAI CHI

A form of exercise that consist of slow, beautiful and relaxed movements that develops balance and harmony for the mind and body.

YOGA

Beginner and beyond classes available. Great for muscle recovery, core strength, flexibility and breathing. PLEASE COME EARLY, AS ENTRANCE DURING CLASS MAY REDIRECT PARTICIPANT’S FOCUS AND ATTENTION TO MOVEMENTS.

Y STEP

Low impact/high energy aerobics class incorporating interval training, floor and cardiovascular endurance training.

ZUMBA

Fun, exhilarating aerobic fitness class featuring simple movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. Experience boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Fit Start

FREE One-On-One appointment designed specifically for members to incorporate resistance training in their exercise routine. Our wellness coaches will discuss your goals and create a program that is right for you. Also included with your Fit Start is an orientation to properly using the wellness equipment.

Fitness Challenges

Each quarter the Wellness Department creates different fitness challenge for all members.  Members compete in individual and/or team competitions to lose weight, tone-up, and track their progress.  Prizes for winners and finishers are given out at the end of each fitness challenge.

No matter your health or wellness goal, the YMCA’s personal training program can provide you the support and motivation you need to reach it. Key benefits of working with a personal trainer include:

Every personal trainer at the Y is nationally certified to ensure they have the expertise and knowledge to develop a wellness program tailored to your specific needs and interests. Trainers are further hired based on their passion and commitment to the Y and its mission to improve our community’s health and well-being.

Personal training options include the choice of training individually or in a buddy setting (2 people). We even offer personal training services for youth.

Youth Fitness Orientation

This program is offered to youth 10-17 years old and is a great way to introduce them to physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Our wellness staff will train them to use cardio, free weights and strength machines correctly and safely.

KidZone

KidZone is our FREE fitness program for children 6 to 12 years old to keep them active while learning the benefits of fitness and exercise. This program was designed to help parents have a fun place for their kids to go while they enjoy a workout.

Therapeutic Massage

The Y is proud to offer Therapeutic Body Massages by a certified therapeutic massage therapist in a private setting. Our massage program is tailored to meet your needs. This multifaceted program can be used to help manage stress, treatment of injury/pain, and relief for tight muscles.

Active Older Adults

The Y has fitness classes specifically designed for older adults. They give participants an opportunity to stay physically active or in some cases, to overcome their fear of exercise and begin being physically active. Active Older Adults programs include water exercise, yoga and stretching classes and walking clubs. Many of our YMCAs also offer socialization opportunities like Bridge Club, monthly birthday celebrations, day trips and more!

Silver Sneakers and Silver & Fit

Get more active with people just like you!  Silver Sneakers and Silver & Fit includes exercise classes, social events, health workshops and screenings as well as volunteer opportunities.

The Bessemer YMCA was selected to be a partner with these programs for its warm, friendly and safe environment.

If your health care plan includes either the Silver Sneakers or Silver & Fit program as part of your benefits package, you can participate at the YMCA at no additional cost to your monthly health care premium.  Call your insurance plan administrator to see if you are eligible to be a part of the Silver Sneakers, or Silver & Fit program.
